Hi y’all! I hope you can see from my cheery greeting that this week has gone much better than the last.
The swing that I mentioned we bought last week in a word is MAGICAL!!! Sam has been napping and sleeping in it for the last week. It seems to be the only option right now if we want to get any sleep. I know we can’t let him sleep in the swing forever, but for right now we all need our sleep so the swing it is!
We’ve taken Sam out a couple times to restaurants and he has been wonderful. The one time he slept through the entire thing while people picked him up and everything. And then other time he was awake but very calm. He looked like he was just taking it all in.
I had my incision check last week also and the nurse said my incision looks great! It’s healing very nicely and has already started to shrink a little. And I’m officially allowed to drive again. Thank the lord! I’m not trapped in the house anymore! I still have another week to wait before I’m supposed to lift anything heavier than Sam but that’s totally fine. I can use the carrier if I take him somewhere.
I’ve been trying to play photographer a bit lately mostly because I want to capture Sam’s elusive smile (it passes so quickly right now). As a result I have a half a million pictures of him on my computer already so I figured I’d share a cute one I took the other day.
Hope y’all have a nice rest of the week!
On Saturday we took our little Sam to Sears to get his picture taken. I wanted to get some newborn photos taken of him before he grows out of the itty-bitty stage.
He did a great job! He only got a little fussy right at the end of the session and we got plenty of adorable photos of him. Here are a few of my favorites!
We ordered a bunch of photos to send to our family (so family if you’re reading this you’ll receive some shortly) and even a few collages for us to hang around the house! I can’t wait til we get them.
And I’d been waiting to get these pictures taken so I could design and send out birth announcements. Now I know pretty much everyone knows he’s here thanks to Facebook, but I still want to send some out. Here’s what I came up with:
Did you get photos of your newborn taken? Baby pictures may just be the cutest pictures ever!
Summer’s a great time to go camping….unless of course you live in Texas and have had about 70 straight days of 105 degree weather. No camping for this girl….ick! Can you say “sweaty”?
But this week’s font is camping inspired for those of you that live in areas where it would actually be bearable to spend a couple nights in a tent.
It’s called Campfire and can be found at FontSpace for free!
And here’s a yummy picture of a s’more just cause.
Have you ever tried making one with a mint chocolate bar? It’s delicious!
This week has been a challenge. I’m not going to sugarcoat it.
Sam is an eating machine. So much so that he’d apparently rather eat than sleep. Which makes for a very cranky newborn. (And a very cranky mom for that fact, too.) He eats every 30 minutes to an hour. Then sleeps for maybe 5 minutes and then he’s ready to eat again. Is this normal?
Also, he seems to leak pee a lot. We’ve tried both Pampers and Huggies and it doesn’t seem to make a difference. He’s in newborn size diapers which I’m pretty sure is the smallest size available but I think his legs are just so skinny that the elastic just isn’t tight enough around his legs. My husband and I are both very careful to make sure Sam’s “thing” is pointed down too. It doesn’t seem to make a difference. I also wanted to try cloth diapers but the ones we currently have are for 10 pounds and up. I thought we’d have a bigger baby so I didn’t bother buying any newborn size cloth diapers. I guess we’ll be waiting awhile to put those on him.
Oh and I broke down and gave Sam formula twice this week. I feel horrible. Like less of a mom or something. I know I shouldn’t worry about it but I feel like I should be able to provide him with what he needs. Sam’s just eating way too much and not sleeping enough. My milk production doesn’t seem to be able to keep up with his demands and it’s quite frustrating.
One saving grace this week has been our baby swing. We stopped by BabysRUs on Saturday and purchased a swing for Sam. We realized that he really likes that motion and decided to make the splurge. The swing really has helped make his fussiness a little more bearable. This is the one we got if you’re interested.
The only thing that’s getting me through this is knowing that there are other new moms going through this same thing. Oh and my husband. He’s been fantastic. He takes the baby to give me a few minutes to breath and runs out to the store for ice cream when I’m having a rough night. I am so thankful for him!
I don’t want y’all to think I’m miserable because really I’m not. I love my kid and I love being a mom. It’s just a bit tougher than I imagined I guess. And it’s taking me a bit longer to get used to being a mom than I’d like. Seriously, he’s the cutest thing in the world and I’m so happy to have my two boys to hang out with every night!
Wish me luck. Hopefully next week will be better!
Hey y’all. I figure my kiddo’s almost 2 weeks old already so it’s probably time to announce the winners of the baby guessing game.
Congrats Jaime and Karen! Please contact me to tell me what kind of baked good you’d like me to send you.
*Posting will probably be a bit light for awhile while I figure out this whole motherhood thing. Please don’t go anywhere. I promise I’ll still be around!
